Imac Crashes Frequently

i'm getting a lot of shutdowns after working for about every half hour or so.

i tried running verify disk and it shows nothing wrong.
i also updated software and latest OS but it doesn't help.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Have you tried calling Apple or taking it to your local apple store? If its a hardware issue then you'll need apple care or your one year warranty to cover you for it, but if its software related then its probably quite a simple fix. I'd say calling apple is your best bet.

to be honest i would book an appointment with genius bar and get them to sort it out for you.
how old is your iMac?

Have you tried running the Hardware Test from the install disk #1? Reboot your Mac with the install disk while holding down the D key.

It might be a heat issue so Apple may need to look at it.

Just run the hardware test.

It has detected an error.

That's a ram module error. Have you replaced the ram lately? When did it start crashing? Pulling one stick at a time, run the computer and see if it crashes, if it doesn't that's the good module. Ram is dirt cheap right now. Buy 2 "good" sticks from Crucial.

I have had the same problem where I put "brand new 2 Gig" ram into the slot and about two weeks later...its cooked...but when I put a 1 Gig Ram into the drive it works fine....would the slot/drive burn out the ram or is the mechanism by which pulls the ram could be bad? If so, is there a way to check to see if it is bad?
