iPhone WEP WiFi settings
I was having trouble connecting my iPhone 3G (software version 2.0.2) to my home Wi-Fi (D-Link Router 824VUP+) after my router crashed and was reset.
At first, I found my iPhone only connected to it when no security encryption was enabled for the router. When I tried to turn on wep encryption, I kept getting kicked out (on my iPhone) after (seemingly) being connected to the wifi network for 5-10 seconds.
Luckily, I discovered the following steps allowed me to connect using WEP 64 bit encryption:
1) In your router configuration, set Security Type to WEP, Encryption to 64 Bit, Key mode to HEX, and then type in a 10-digit password.
2) Your router will automatically encrypt this and show you the encrypted version (still 10 digits, but not what you typed in originally)
3) In iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset (at bottom) > Reset Network Settings
4) (optional) Turn your phone off and then on again
5) Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Choose a Network... (find yours in the list)
6) Type in the new 10-digit WEP key (when iPhone asks for password)
That's it. It worked perfect for me! 🙂
I added this since I couldn't find any useful help online (when I searched), and had to figure it out myself. Hope this helps some people!
Cheers,
Rich
PS. I had previously tried 128 bits encryption, but it didn't work for me. This was before the release of 2.0.2 so it may be fixed. I just didn't need it, so didn't bother.
