Audiobooks not playing on iPhone 3g (2.0.2)

Hi there,
maybe someone around here may be able to help me out.

Problem: I have close to 50 Audiobooks. All of them were ripped from CD to mp3, tagged propperly (so Chapters show up right), merged and re-encoded via foobar2000 and chapter fixed using mp4chaps. I even managed to get around the iTunes bug showing twice the length of the compiled Audiobook due to mistaking the sampling frequency for half the actual rate (all other soft shows 44 kHz, iTunes insists onit being 22 kHz) by converting the files to a measely sampling rate of 11 kHz...well not the point of this post.

All those Audiobooks play fine on my iPod Nano 3g (current Software) but when I try to play them on my iPhone the screen flips over to playback mode and drops right back to the selection screen without starting the book.

Am I missing something? Are there any restrictions that apply to Audiobooks on the iPhone but not on the iPod? Any Help realy appreciated.

Hey Dave,

Have you seen the same issue with audio books purchased form the iTunes Store?

The issue may be related to the way the files were created.

From the iPhone Technical Specifications page:
+Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV+ http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
