Since the last update to my TC (7.3.2) the wireless download speed has degraded to almost a tenth of the speed I used to get (testing through speedtest.net, ~10,000kbps to ~1,000kbps!).

This renders my TC almost entirely useless; streaming any media is a waste of time and forget doing a backup over wireless.

Having read the many posts on this forum; I've tried everything from disabling WDS for my AE, changing the mulitcast rate and the wireless channel. None of them have done anything.

However, disabling security has. I'm now getting ~10,000kbps again. I've tried switching between WPA and WEP and both result in terrible download rates.

This is far from ideal, but it does go towards fixing this mess - I hope. For now at least I can secure my network by MAC and disable broadcasting of my SSID.

Anyone else having issues give this a try and post your results.

I had that issue when I bought the initial Extreme. Disabling security was a countermeasure but unacceptable.

Since then I've used up to three Extremes or TC and security with speed is fine even awesome.

I have same problem. I have Time Capsule 500GB version. TC is set with 5GHz WIFI using WPA2 encryption. I was able to watch films directly through Wifi, now - it is unbearable. I get same speed only if I connect Ethernet cable and disable Airport.

Tested by disabling Wifi encryption (no security) - managed to get high transfer speed as before this issue happened.

Is it after upgrading to 10.5.5 or is it after updating Airport on my MacBookPro, my transfer speed dropped 10 folds at least. It is impossible.

Help and advice would be appreciated, as I do not want to run Wifi without any protection. Filtering MAC address is not good enough.

APPLE, please fix your issues, so we could again use products that we paid for :-|

I have the exact same problem with my 1TB TC. Turning of security is not an option for me. I hope they fix this issue soon.

Hi, I'm new on this and TC is giving me a huge headache. I'd like to try your suggestion however, how do you disable security in TC? Thanks.

Man this ***. I just got the TC 500G and it worked great until the upgrade, now it's trash. What gives, I can hook my $40 D-Link back up and it performs circles around this. What a piece of crap.

Have you tried rolling-back the v7.3.2 firmware update?

It is easy to roll-back the firmware. Open Airport Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu, with Option key held down, click 'Check for Updates', then tick '<your model TC> 7.3.1', and click download.

Now, select your TC in Airport Utility and click 'Manual Setup'. Under the 'Summary' tab click on 'Version 7.3.2' and select 'Upload 7.3.1'. Follow instructions and your TC will restart with v7.3.1.

Ignore the Upgrade to 7.3.2 notices until new firmware is released by Apple - you can turn off check for updates in AirPort Utility preferences.

    It worked !!!

Downgraded firmware to 7.3.1 and got transfer speed back.

Thank you Kevin for your advice.

Oh my gosh, it helped a ton! I am now back to great file transfer rate using 7.3.1!!!

None of the other fixes worked except this one for me.

    Thank you so much.

I agree, Apple must really look into this. I haven't tried downgrading the firmware yet, but I have noticed that streaming music from iTunes to a wlan attached Airport Express actually improves the TC network transfer speed a lot. WPA security is on.

    Maybe helpful for debugging...
