I have a Lacie 500gb drive that I have loaded up before on this Mac Pro. I plug in an Firewire 800 to the front panel. Nothing. At first I thought it was the drive, but I plugged in a second Lacie Drive and still nothing. Again both of these drives have worked before on this Mac plugged in the same way. Any suggestions? Thanks all.
I'd try resetting the PRAM first (cmd-option-p-r at bootup). If that doesn't work you'll probably need to have it checked by Apple. You should definitely verify that both of the Lacie drives work on another machine, though.
Unlpug the FW drives and all FW devices from all FW ports.
Unplug the computer
Wait 10 minutes
Start the computer
Plug in one device. See if it mounts.
Unlpugging all and waiting resets the FW bus.
LaCie drives, the older ones had bad power supplies as well, but two drives not being recognized at the same time sounds unlikely to be that.
You may want to try a FW800 to 400 cable and see if it mounts on the FW400 port.
