No visible R (record enable) button on audio tracks in Logic Pro 8

When I add an audio track I don't get the record enable button. I get the I (Input), M (Mute) and S (Solo), but there is a gap where the R (Record Enable) should be. I was able to get it to record last week and I checked my mic by recording in Garageband so i know I have everything hooked up correctly. Anyone else have this problem? Is this a re-install situation?

The soundsticks were selected so I chose my PreSonus Firebox and the record enable button appeared! Now it looks like its recording but Im not getting a sound wave. Also, now that the soundsticks aren't selected I cant listen to any of the loops out loud. Is there a way to enable both the sound sticks and the PreSonus at the same time or am I going to have to monitor through headphones connected to the Firebox?
