black box appears on my screen

When I type on the screen a black box is highlighted. How do I get rid of this?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Try pressing command-F5.

Don't waste your money on mac virus software-there are no mac viruses.
If you want to stop yourself from passing on windows viruses to your friends, use the free ClamXav.
