Audio Midi Setup

I'm having problems with the Audio Midi setup on an Intel iMac running Leopard in our Music Lab. We're using various external devices along with Digital Performer, Pro Tools, Finale, and MIDIquest software. The window in the audio/midi setup should show the names of the attached external devices. One should be able to edit the names of these devices, it doesn't let us because it crashes. Devices show up as new external device and this is a problem for folks in the lab trying to figure out which external device they are trying to connect to. Someone know what the problem might be or what to try? Thank you!
