Can the simulator handle multi-touches?

I know the simulator can handle taps, single touches, drags and pinches with the option key. But is it possible to simulate multiple touches during a event, like three simultaneous touches?

Thanks,

Press and maintain +option key+ and 2 "touches" will appear (to make a pinch). Move them until you have the distance you want between them, and then press the +shift key+ (and keep it pressed of course). Now you can translate the two "touches".

You can not move them separately and it is not a very good way to test the multi-touch events. However if your app's touches are simple, playing with the shift key while having the option key pressed may serve you before putting the app to the device itself.

Great idea, but, no, it doesn't seem to work. I have a macbook pro, but it's about a year old. It doesn't support pinching, but I know it supports multitouch, because I use it for sideways scrolling. Interestingly, the simulator does seem to recognize if I'm using two fingers, because it behaves differently using two fingers than one finger. But, it doesn't simulate multitouch. This would be a great feature enhancement to the simulator though. But, one thing they'll never be able to simulate is the accelerometer.

The Macbook Pro (and non pro) has a built-in accelerometer. I'm sure Apple could use it with the simulator if you don't mind lifting, moving and rotating the entire computer LOL.

Serious now. I think the simulator is great for what it is. For more serious testing you just need to test it on the device, which will not "simulate" anything but give you the real feeling on how the app runs. 🙂
