Tied notes in the score editor, help please!

Hello, everybody!
I wonder if someone may help me finding a way do display this more complex rhythm in the score editor: tying the last 8th note of a triplet to the first note of a 16th quintuplet group. I am using 32,48 quantization on the staff. When I try to change length in the display parameter box or event list either is too much or too less. And then can't get the quintuplet there even with the artificial N-Tuplet. I'm really desperate and can't find a way to get it done!!
Thanks!
Best!!

+EDIT: The following shows how this is possible using 8th-note quintuplets but will also work with 16th-note quintuplets per your post. See add'l pic below...+

Yes, it's possible, but it's a little tricky.

First, make sure "no overlap" and "interpetation" are unchecked (if that make the score look bad, select the notes and use the force interpretation command to get them looking correct again).

Now, I tried this myself, entering an 8th note and also a series of 8th quintuplets in the next measure.

Indeed, trying to join that last 8th and the first quintuplet doesn't work. BUT... try this: make a copy of your first quintuplet note and paste-at-original-position. Then open the piano roll and select the last 8th note plus the copy of the first quintuplet note. Use the glue tool to join them. Your score will now look like this:

What you're seeing in the matrix (piano roll) editor is the remaining 1st note of the quintuplet overlapping on top of the (now long) 8th note from the previous measure.

+EDIT: here's the same thing with 16th's+

@ MS, thanks for the kind words! Rohan and I have been talking about getting together one day, though I doubt that our lil' soirée will be on apple's dime... 😉

@ angel, glad you found that trick useful! To post images, you have to upload them to a server. Then, write out the complete URL surrounded by exclamation points, like this:

"!"URL"!" (but don't use the quotes)

If you click on the "Help & Terms of Use" on the right of this page and then scroll down, you'll see a list that shows you how to do various kinds of markup in your posts.

there is another way, although iS's trick is great.

you can insert a rest and add a tuplet to that.

what to do is actually delete the first note of your tuplet and insert a rest in its place. than add your tuplet and lengthen the note to be tied over.

if you are sorting out something played in, you might find it easier to set up the tuplet rest in a blank bit of score and then cut and paste over the top in the right spot.

...although actually ...

you may not have to if there is already a gap (and there fore an automatic rest) on the first part of the tuplet. just add user rest and add tuplet.

incidentally, i do these kinds of things all the time and one thing i have found really really useful is to set nudge KC's for moving notes by a frame and by half a frame. sometimes all you need to do is just nudge a small passage a little one way or the other and it falls neatly into its correct tuplet display. very quick and easy.
