Welcome to Apple Discussions, Tim.

The battery life which Apple markets with the 5th Gen iPod (Video) for playing video is 2 hours.
I fully agree that that is too short for videos but I guess that requires a great deal of power.

Check out the Tech Specs page of the iPod section of apple.com for more info on battery life.

Sorry you are disapointed with the life of the battery but I am confident in the fact that it is not faulty.

I understood that the 60 GB last about 3 hours. Ive been getting close to that...about 2.5 hours.
I was disappointed at first cause I heard "20 hour battery " for the 5G and I thought that was video to but once you think about it, video take much more power than music...and dont forget...this is a music player that has video features...not the other way around so it makes sense that the battery last alot shorter when you watch videos

Thats fine, Tim!

It seems as if you joined up because you had a problem - as many of us had done - but then you realise that you may have some fixes to problems others have! It goes from there and you realise that it is a rewarding experience helping others with these problems if you can and you may begin to come back even if you don't have a problem but just to help others with theres. That must be the true spirit behind Discussion boards like these.

Happy to help,

Well the 2.5 is average...Ive only had it for 3 weeks so Im still hoping it will improve and that I pay more attention to the time its lasting...BUt I know Ive seen Batman Begins ( 2:03 ) and about 2 episodes of the Dave Chapelle show before my battery runs out...and thats about 3 hours...so Im happy for now.
Of course, I would love for a 4 hour life...but as you know, thats not gonna happen

Hi, I've got a 60 gig and it gets the rated 3 hours playtime which is impressive for the size of this unit. I picked up a Belkin "TunePower" very compact lithium battery. It isn't spec'd for the ViPod (yet) as it comes with custom sleeves for Mini, and 4G iPods. I found the larger sleve fits OK on my 60. This setup gives 6.5 hours non-stop video playback. It's fairly compact and sleek looking. Hopefully they will add a sleeve for these at some point for the best fit.

I'm a very longtime portable video user and a big Archos fan. I'd sure like to see BackLight Intensity adjustment added to the iPod, that could save a lot of power if the backlight could be dimmed. The Archos and iPAQ's have this function and it reall can help as backlights are power hogs...

I haven't seen any posts on this issue as of yet, so I'll go ahead and ask.

Is the battery indicator on the 30GB iPod Video bugged? As advertised, this particular iPod's battery is supposed to last up to 14 hours. However, I fully charged my iPod on Monday and used it for just over one hour while working out. Similarly, I used the iPod on Tuesday for about 45 minutes. I would estimate that I have probably used my iPod a total of 3.5 hours. I had the hold button activated, so the backlight was off for the vast majority of the time. Also, I have not watched any video on the device.

Here it is, Thursday, and the indicator is already in the red zone. I have read about this issue in another forum and have posted the link below:

Is this a bug of some sort? And, if so, what steps will be taken to resolve this issue?
