I am owner of a Macbook Pro, 2,2 Ghz, 2 Go Ram, 120 Go HDD (5400 rpm), with this serial number: W87442HXX91 bought new from a Apple authorised resseller in Toulouse, France in December 2007.
Suddenly, the computer has no more video issue, why it was normally working few seconds before
Accordind to apple support, this is due to Nvidia chipset and apple recommands to contact the nearest Apple Service Center THAT WILL FIX IT FOR FREE OR WILL MAKE ISSUE REFUNDS for people who may have paid for that; what I ve did, I went to Arab computers in Jeddah (Mr Karim), but he rejected totally what it is written on apple support webpages, refused to fix the problem for free and he told that it will cost 4200 SR for fixing the problem
I found that this contradiction is absolutely abnormal

Please find attached the web page from apple support

Best regards

I called Apple support two weeks ago. They had not heard of the problem, but told me I could send it in to a service center. I did last week, and luckily I got the logic board replaced within just 3 days.

I have AppleCare until the end of May, but here in Norway I would most likely have gotten it fixed without AppleCare too. That's not to say AppleCare made it a more smooth experience.

No details in the service report. It just said that the logic board was replaced.

No freezes so far. It has been running solid for three days now 🙂

As a follow up on my earlier posts I can tell that Apple has replaced the Logic Board of my MBP at no cost. My MBP is 2.5 years old and I did not purchase Apple Care.

Writing a complaint letter to the director of Benelux (I live in the Netherlands) resulted in a telephone call the day after from Apple Customer Service with the request to visit an Authorized Service Provider.
During a ca 4 hour session the specific test programs did not report any problems and another remark was that Apple has not announced an Extended Warranty Program for this MBP, so it would become difficult to get it fixed. Then I demonstrated the problems and system hangs!

Then the Thermal Paste has been replaced and that did not lead to solving the problems. Also replacing the 2 GB memory was no solution.

Finally the conclusion was that from a technical point everything was done and that only replacing the Logic Board would solve the problems.

The technical details were sent to Apple and within two working days I got the message that Apple would replace the Logic Board under warranty, so at no cost.

This is done two weeks ago and my MBP is working correctly again.

Hi Peter Riemens,

is it possible that you transfer the resonse of your case to me (letter contents ect.). I did all the same as you,

- replacing RAM,
- replaced heat conductive paste,
- reinstalled,
- tested external monitors,
- Called apple,
- mailed to APPLE,
- faxed to APPLE,
- wrote emails to NIC-information about apple.com,
- called AMD,
- wrote mail to AMD.

I think we all here are shure that it's the GPU no question but I Got everytime same answer from Apple: Do it yourselve. you are the first one with another solution brougt by apple here.

*Again if you can give me the resonses via mail, i will try the same. i am foolish enought to post my mail here: xcache@gmx.net.*

Please let us know how you did it. Don't let us alone here

regards
