Mar 6, 2009 3:07 AM in response to macuser128by ChildOfFire,@ Macuser 128,
Monday i will go to the "Verbraucherschutz" (sorry,i dont know how is the name in english) and will ask them for help.
This sounds good. http://www.verbraucherzentrale-bayern.de/UNIQ123633140313934/link28126A.html maybe they can force Apple Germany to change the logic board. -
Mar 10, 2009 1:42 AM in response to rami bisharaby damiii,I have the same problem in my macbookpro... ATI x1600!
I sent a negative feedback last week! -
Mar 10, 2009 2:27 AM in response to damiiiby macuser128,Hi you,
I contacted ATI directly and told them about our problem. The guy said to me that they are not aware of the problem for now, but he would put it into the line. He was on this thread here and it seems he was little bit more interested in that thing than apple himself.
hope he does anything.
Still searching for a solution.
Good luck -

Mar 10, 2009 2:08 PM in response to rami bisharaby Marcus S,Just want to register my claim in this forum, I have a 32bit MBP 2.0Ghz core duo ATI x1600 and I am having problems most similar to the following:
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1881/picture2uh8.png
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9100/picture12oe2.png
http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/3382/picture123sp6.png
It occurs when the MBP is running hot. I am not sure what course of action I will take from here but this is a start. So far I am just letting it cool down to resume operation. -
Mar 12, 2009 12:25 PM in response to Marcus Sby chrisjk,I have the same problems. Lines of pixels across app windows and machine freezes. I am using a 30 inch cinema display and I am glad to see from this thread that the problem seems to be with the MBP rather than the display, since I can at least consider using the display with another machine.
Model Name: MacBook Pro 17"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Chipset Model: ATY,RadeonX1600
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002) -
Mar 14, 2009 12:13 AM in response to chrisjkby chrisjk,I have installed Fan Control from here http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/
It seems to work well and I've had no problem since installing it. The machine runs about 15 degrees (centigrade) cooler - although the fans work a lot harder to keep it down. Not objectionably noisy though I would say. -
Mar 15, 2009 4:58 AM in response to chrisjkby drviossy,Hello from Italy
My MBP has this strange display issue. Does any of you have the same problem?!?! There's a kind of white stain in the center of the display, at the same level with the Apple symbol.
Here's "the thing":

Thanks for your help -
Mar 15, 2009 6:38 AM in response to Marcus Sby spagbol23,I think the images you post here are the display/GPU issues that most people subscribing to this thread are interested in finding an answer to and making apple aware that this problem arises from a manufacturing/hardware issue that in no way has been avoidable by usage patterns.
It is a purely and simply a flaw in the MBP design on MBP's with ATI Radeon x1600 graphics cards.
Apple are yet to address this problem, they appear to be ignoring it. So remember to send your feedback to apple about this issue your having.
This issue with the ATI graphics card is, i think we will all agree is unacceptable.

Mar 15, 2009 6:39 AM in response to chrisjkby spagbol23,I used to use FanControl for a while after finding that smcFanControl no longer kept my machine cool enough.
FanControl seemed to work for a while, but the problems came back eventually.
This issue is hacking me off big time!

Mar 17, 2009 5:32 PM in response to rami bisharaby Matt Hill.,Having had terrible lockups during video playback, distorted screen text, freezes on my favourite game (eve online) I tried hardware check, wiping the disk and reinstalling, no joy
so installed SMCfancontrol, and found that only by setting almost max rpm as minimum fan speed (4000-6000rpm) could I avoid lockup when gaming.
+But I can't recommend it for regular usage+ - I can't imagine the fans are designed to run continuously at such speeds (besides the fact that it is very noisy) -
Mar 18, 2009 8:20 AM in response to Matt Hill.by spagbol23,Remember to vent your spleen about this issue here
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html
when smcFanControl will no longer suffice in resolving the problem, as some of us know that will be your eventual outcome
Im starting to get freezes now when i use my MBP and Audio Hijack when i plug my guitar in.....thats a new one for me. No Video no heavy graphics programs, just Audio HiJack.......

Mar 18, 2009 7:30 PM in response to rami bisharaby Spidr,I am sending this issue to several sites and hope someone will pick it up and maybe get some pull with apple. It's been several months, this is clearly an issue with many occurrences and they should have addressed it already.
Sended it to macfixit, appleinsider and macrumors. If anyone thinks of other sites I will gladly report there as well.
