    Hi D.Spencer

Turn off the 3D capability of the device completely sounds like a good try, hope that the Problem only affects the 3D GPU part or the heat reduction is enough. We should look if this really works for everyone here in every state of error.

Also i will look which applications are not running with this option. VLC for Example is not willing to play any Video in that mode.

Thanks for the information you provided.

    regards

    Don't work for me!

    I still have the problem!

PS: when i have turned off quartz extreme, VLC works with the same anomalies..

I am owner of a Macbook Pro, 2,2 Ghz, 2 Go Ram, 120 Go HDD (5400 rpm), with this serial number: W87442HXX91 bought new from a Apple authorised resseller in Toulouse, France in December 2007.
Suddenly, the computer has no more video issue, why it was normally working few seconds before
Accordind to apple support, this is due to Nvidia chipset and apple recommands to contact the nearest Apple Service Center THAT WILL FIX IT FOR FREE OR WILL MAKE ISSUE REFUNDS for people who may have paid for that; what I ve did, I went to Arab computers in Jeddah (Mr Karim), but he rejected totally what it is written on apple support webpages, refused to fix the problem for free and he told that it will cost 4200 SR for fixing the problem
I found that this contradiction is absolutely abnormal

Please find attached the web page from apple support

    Best regards

Yeah the NVIDA problem has been acknowledged but I think most in this thread have the ATI X1600. You bought your mb pro after they were updated in oct or nov if I remember? I think everyone would be thrilled if the same sort of recognition was given to the ATI chipset.

I called Apple support two weeks ago. They had not heard of the problem, but told me I could send it in to a service center. I did last week, and luckily I got the logic board replaced within just 3 days.

I have AppleCare until the end of May, but here in Norway I would most likely have gotten it fixed without AppleCare too. That's not to say AppleCare made it a more smooth experience.

No details in the service report. It just said that the logic board was replaced.

No freezes so far. It has been running solid for three days now

different problem than here, but you should be able to get it sent into apple.
I would call them and ask for packaging, so that it can be sent, they usually give you the packaging for free.

I received my laptop back from Apple rather quickly (always nice), and they did replace the logic board (as well as a bad optical drive) for the $310 fee. I'm keeping my paperwork should they acknowledge at some point that there is an issue, but for those who are having a problem I'd certainly suggest taking it to a Genius Bar near you.

I've been having this exact same problem. Unfortunately I do not have applecare and I have not had any luck getting this fixed at a reasonable cost. Please let me know if you are successful in getting Apple to acknowledge this. I am certainly done purchasing Apple products if they are not willing to stand behind them.

As a follow up on my earlier posts I can tell that Apple has replaced the Logic Board of my MBP at no cost. My MBP is 2.5 years old and I did not purchase Apple Care.

Writing a complaint letter to the director of Benelux (I live in the Netherlands) resulted in a telephone call the day after from Apple Customer Service with the request to visit an Authorized Service Provider.
During a ca 4 hour session the specific test programs did not report any problems and another remark was that Apple has not announced an Extended Warranty Program for this MBP, so it would become difficult to get it fixed. Then I demonstrated the problems and system hangs!

Then the Thermal Paste has been replaced and that did not lead to solving the problems. Also replacing the 2 GB memory was no solution.

Finally the conclusion was that from a technical point everything was done and that only replacing the Logic Board would solve the problems.

The technical details were sent to Apple and within two working days I got the message that Apple would replace the Logic Board under warranty, so at no cost.

This is done two weeks ago and my MBP is working correctly again.

    Hey Rami,
I had similar problems. Just brought it to a mac store and they replaces my screen. I had a problem with the screen, its not related to graphics card nor the cables or anything. I think you should take it to a mac store and give it a try...
