Migrating data to a new machine

I am in the process of moving over my data to my new MacBook Pro and somehow expected that it would be relatively straightforward for the Apple applications iCal, Mail and Address Book. I am not sure if I am missing something here but the only way that I could move my different iCal Calendars from my old machine was to export each one individually, followed by importing back into iCal on the new machine. I couldn't locate a single 'Calendar' folder in my use Library that I could have transferred.

Just wondering if this is normal or have I missed something?

I am not using Migration Assistant as I have a lot of junk on the old machine that I do not want transferred over. Managed to set the old machine up in Target Disk Mode and that worked well for selective transfer of documents, iTunes and Entourage.
