Condensed 'NASA' style font in Safari (Screen grabbed) - HELP

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem within Safari where the type becomes condensed on the majority of pages, looking like a 'NASA' style space font. I have taken a screengrab in the hope someone knows how to fix this which is at the following link:

http://www.kwd.co.uk/condensed_type.gif

I have reset the appearance preferences in Safari & have removed helvetica fractions & times phonetic fonts from my mac.

I have searched the forums and can't seem to find an answer to this - any ideas out there please?
Thanks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hello Soluble and welcome to the forums!

That does look a bit strange!

What fonts have you set in Safari Preferences/Appearance?

Mine are: Standard Font = Times 16
Fixed-width font: Courier 13

Default encoding: Western (ISO Latin1)

soluable --

You are experiencing a font conflict.
It's a very simple matter, actually.
Go into your Font Book application,
and scroll down the list to see samples.

When you see that font, just delete that font from your computer.
It is conflicting & taking over where another font has been specified.

Question:
Did you recently add any fonts to your Mac?
Or an application that came with fonts???

Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions, I have checked my preferences in Safari which match those of Klaus1 & have also been through all of the fonts in fontbook but cannot see one that looks like what I'm getting in safari. It's a brand new iMac and has been doing this since the start!

Firefox is doing the same thing - I have managed to override the preferences by allowing pages to choose their own fonts.

Any other suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks

Ok, soluble --

Take your USERS font folder to the desktop.
The path is HD>Users (also called Home, with the little house icon)>Library>Fonts.
It's an important detail. Make sure it's in the Users>Library>Fonts.
Restart, and open up Safari.
If this works, we know the culprit is in there.
If Safari is still messed up, we have to look further.

Hi Bee,
You're a star! I had a look through the folder you mentioned and found a rogue font called Alien 55.ttf
which looked very similar to the one I was getting in Safari.

I've removed and deleted this font & everything is now back to normal!

Thank you everyone for your help - greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Soluble

I knew I had seen that font before, but couldn't remember which one it was.
That Alien font has caused more problems for Mac owners . . .
So anyone reading this thread, Alien is a good one to avoid.
Thanks again soluble, for letting us know.
