ICal changed to Read-Only

My iCal just started doing this last night. I opened Disk Utility and repaired permissions, nothing changed. I went to "my user name> library> preferences> com.apple.ical.plist" and moved it to the desktop- I reopened iCal and it created a new plist, but still my calender is a "read only" calendar and it won't let me add any new events! This is very frustrating.

My iCal is version 2.0.5

One way I've gotten around some weird problems like this in the past is to export my calendars to the Desktop, and then re-import them back into iCal. I'm not sure if this will work for you, however. You also might try backing up and restoring via File->Back up iCal... . Hope that helps.

Edit: if the problem is related to a calendar you've published, Apple offers these suggestions (from iCal Help):

■ If you want to change events on a calendar that you published on the Internet, but you’ve deleted the calendar from your Calendars list, you need to re-create the calendar with all its events, give it the same name as the published calendar, and then publish the new calendar. The new calendar will replace the previously published one.

■ If you can’t change an event for which you are the organizer, or you can’t change the attendee settings for an event you’ve been invited to, make sure all your email addresses are listed on your Address Book card (the card marked “me”).

I am having the same problem with suddenly having my calendar say "read only". This has never happened before and I cannot find a way to fix it. Please help, for unfortunate reasons I primarily use this MacBook for ical.

This is the exact thing that has happened to me with iCal v. 2.0.5. Why? Now I cannot add anything or move appointments. I cannot edit at all. It is so weird. I have been in this "read-only" mode for 2 days. I have been having so many problems. This one is frustrating. MM

Two out of my 3 machines switched to "read only" in iCal just a few days ago, as well. Makes me think that Apple's got problems at .mac which changes some setting when there's synchronization going on. I'm glad to hear that the problem went away for at least one person. Hopefully I'm in line for a fix. Can Apple respond to this problem, since I'm not alone?

Let me add another victim to this mystery. iCal lets me write to my 'Calendars' but, not to my 'subscriptions'. I don't remember my 'birthdays' being in 'subscriptions'.
I think this is a mobile me issue. I will investigate my mobile me preferences/permissions.

Yep, me too, exact same issue. Feels like I've lost my life, when I can't use my ical.

d'oh! Just solved the problem. I was checked on "birthdays" among the various calendars I've set up. Birthdays can't be changed (pulled from address book).

Well, ask and ye shall receive. Two hours after my post, iCal is functioning normally again. Knock on wood. (I didn't do anything other than wait it out.)

Hey! You saved me from ****... this is it! Last iTune or iCal update must have ticked all the calendars, and the birthday one is read only!!!! Thanks a lot for your insight.

I've been having this read-only problem too. It only started a week or so ago. Now I'm having problems syncing my iCal to my iPhone. Something is definitely afoot...
