itunes-no option to convert songs to MP3

hey everyone. itunes won't let me convert songs from my CD's to MP3 for format. after dragging songs into a playlist, when i click on the advanced tab, it only gives me the option to convert to AAC which is useless. can anyone help with this? thanks

The "Convert to xxx" command shows XXX = to whatever your import preference is set for. So you import as AAC so that is what you see. Go to iTunes preferences -> Advanced -> Importing and change your import preference to MP3. OK out of there and NOW you will see the option to Convert to MP3 instead of AAC.
Just be sure to change it back to AAC if that is what you prefer to use after you do your conversions.
Cheers,
Patrick

I don't see those preferences in iTunes 8. Have they been moved? I frequently would switch between Apple Lossless and AAC 256kbps.
