This error can be caused by having old firmware on the AirPort Express. Make sure you have updated the base station to version 6.3.

This error can be caused by the firewall not allowing iTunes connections. Make sure to enable iTunes access in System Preferences > Security > Firewall.
Ok - tried again (-3256 error) to change the firewall setting. This time it worked. I selected "allow access for particular programs" and selected iTunes. This solved the problem.
Firmware is up to date, firewall is allowing incoming connections... problem still persists. Like I said before, my other machine running the previous version of iTunes is able to stream fine to the Apple TV but not the one with iTunes 8... What's the best way to uninstall iTunes 8 and re-install the previous version?
Hmm got it to work when turning of firewall entirely...
Only iTunes preset i have in my firewall that i can enable is iTunes musik sharing and that one is always on. Using mac os X tiger 10.4.11
What would be the same setting for me since the one mentioned ("System Preferences > Security > Firewall.") looks to refer to mac os X 10.5.x
Similar problem here although I don't get any error message. iTunes says it's connecting to remote speakers, appears to connect and I can see the track playing but get no sound.
Solwed it! (more or less) might be the same for you all.
For me it works if you in settings for firewall (Tiger 10.4.11) klick the litle advanced button (bottom right corner) and uncheck the block UDP trafik.
This way you can keep your firewall turned on and still be abel to turn on and of remote speakers. Otherwise it also works to turn of firewall when enabeling remote speakers, then turn firewall back on.
And hey now I can shose the speakers in the remote app of my iPhone with no fuzz.
I've been getting the same message as about half of you "unknown error -15000" when I try to connect iTunes 8 to to the stereo via the newest airport express, with the latest firmware. I was able to get it working by... system preferences > security > firewall > set access for specific access and application > "hit the plus sign in the lower left corner" and add iTunes. That being said, I did do a factory reset on the airport express express and re configure. not sure if that is necessary though.
I tried manually adding iTunes in the firewall and it still fails. iTunes 7 broke Airtunes, you would think Apple would test this stuff out a bit more. The last few months has been a real struggle with Apple releases and upgrades for me, this is just one more nail in their coffin as far as I'm concerned.
I had the same -3256 error. I changed the firewall to "allow incoming connections" for itunes and now it works. It also works with "Allow all incoming connections"
This doesn't really make any sense as it always worked before with the "Allow only essential services". Running a Mid2007 Macbook, 10.5.4, iTunes 8
