ITunes 8 Upgrade Results in 5002 unknown Error when trying to update Apps

iTunes 8 reports that I have apps with updates available. When trying to update them I get this error:

We could not complete your iTunes Store Request.
An unknown error occurred (5002).

There was an error in the Itunes Store. Please try again later.

These are all great solutions, but my problem was also that I could never see WHAT apps it wanted to update. Could not get past the error into that screen. I'm not one to delete what I've purchased either - at least not right away.

My work around was to do the updates on the iPod Touch itself - which in the past has been a risky endeavor. Luckily it all worked and the apps sync'ed from the Touch back to iTunes.

Another update showed up and it failed also.

Apple does not need to hire beta testers they have all of us. I'm getting a bit tired of that what about all of you?

This also worked for me. ... I think the problem, for me, was that I had deleted some aps because I was tired of them. ... Those were the ones that the application pane displayed with a generic ap icon. ... I deleted everything with the generic icon, and then connected to the store, downloaded the updates, and went on my merry way.

This isnt solved for me. I tried everything listed above:

I have no apps coming up on iPhone as needing to be updated.

I checked for purchases on iTunes and nothing came up.

I tried purchasing a new free app from iTunes (not App Store), but I wasnt asked for a new TOS.

Any other ideas? Other than restoring iPhone (last hope)

That didn't work for me! I already had accepted it...

What DID WORK for me was finding what updates where there for me to do MANUALLY (by going through my apps and checking the AppStore to see if it had a newer version) and after installing a few manually, it started working again.

As to the cause, it might be because one of my apps has been taken out of the AppStore (Light Saber)... I had heard before that the "5002 error" came with people that use the Shopping Cart to buy music (I actually do) and a product in their shopping cart (I use it as a wishlist) as been removed from the Store, making it go "crazy"...

Good luck for everyone.

PS: I've seen the 5002 around the web for a lot of different "problems"... No wonder they say "unknown error"... :/

BTW, started typing that reply not doing factoryjoe's post was already a reply to a thread... Since then I've noticed that another user as posted the same solution, the only difference being I didn't delete the existing apps, just updated them... Also, the apps that were probably causing the problem were "iconless"... Could've been part of the problem (or a symptom...).

Good luck everyone... Lets hope Apple publishes a definitive fix to avoid this problem.

I have been having a similar problem on previous versions of ITunes (including ITunes 8). I have this problem updating apps on my iPhone 3G.

The error is:

The application "XYZ" was not installed on the iPhone "Mike's iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE800002E).

I have only seen this error when updating apps (ignore the wording "installed"). I can install new apps with no problems.

Are the 2 errors related?

woohoo.. mine worked too..

the problem i had was on my iPhone when going to the App Store, it didn't show any updates, so I didn't know which apps needed updating!!

in the iTunes store though, my Shazam application didn't have it's icon correctly, so i trashed that - re downloaded it and accepted the new T&C's.

This then allowed me to download all the updates from iTunes and it's installing them now 🙂
