Not thrilled wit Gmail IMAP setup

So thats to some sound advice from V.K. I reconfigured my gmail accounts as IMAPs instead of POPs. I am excited that I get all my mail now, however I am not stoked about how new mail shows up in both my normal mailboxes as well as the server mailboxes down lower in the list. The think that I do not like is that I have to open up the new email in both places in order for it to show that email is read and take off the new email tallies.

Is there a way to adjust this to only list emails as new in one place or only have to open the mail once to mark it as read?

In short: try the option to "Use this mailbox for..." in the Mailbox menu.

Despite what [Google recommends|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892&topic=1281 4], I found the following settings to work best for me. In the sidebar, navigate to the subfolders Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk of "Google Mail" (the one with the white folder icon instead of a blue one) in turn and go to "Mailbox" menu > "Use this mailbox for..." > Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk respectively. Afterwards these folders show up as subfolders to the main Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk folders in the sidebar (and at the same time disappear from the GMail section). (Some of the checkboxes in Mail's Preferences > Accounts > GoogleMail > Behavior will get checked by that, too.)
