playback prohibited by area limitations

After I've burned a DVD of a slideshow created with iDVD 5, it plays back fine on my computer, and on newer home DVD players, but not on mine (a Sony DVP-NC685V, about 4 years old). I get an error message on my TV screen: "playback prohibited by area limitations". I've burned many DVDs in the past, both slide shows or video, with little or no problem. I've tried both NTSC and PAL, and Best Quality and Best Performance, all with the same results.

I believe something is wrong with the iDVD file itself, as I've tried different DVD-R media (my burner only allows 1X) with the same results. I burned a DVD of a different iDVD file containing video, and it works fine, on both computer and standalone DVD player. Also of note, the media files and iDVD files reside in my user folder on my startup drive, which I've checked with disk utility and repaired permissions also.

I'd be surprised... iDVD produced DVDs are 'All Regions'

You didn't get any warning about making a Region change when you played the DVD in your computer, did you?

Your Sony player may be fussy about playing back writable media.
