Problems importing audiobook CD into ITunes....tracks skip

When I try to import CD audiobooks to Itunes it downloads the first 90% of the CD just fine. Then in the last 2 or 3 chapters on the CD the computer slows down, starts skipping around, and takes like 40 minutes to import a 4 minute track. When I listen to it on itunes, the track is a mess of skipping. But the CD is brand new with no scratches or problems. I can play the CD fine in other CD players but for some reason it can't load properly into my Itunes. Any suggestions?

This has happened to me. I bet the CD shows up as 1.2 hours long in iTunes. These are the extended 700MB to 800MB discs or 72 minutes. Some computer CD readers have problems with these types of discs. I have had issues with Sony and TDK CD-ROM and writers about this issue. It causes the CD reading head to move to far. Or, if it is an older CD-ROM drive, tracking at the extreme end of the CD has become inaccurate.

The best course is to try a different CD-ROM drive if you have more than one. Or try a different computer. I have a cheap no-name brand CD-ROM drive that read these extended audiobook CDs with no issue at all. While the more expensive name brands had lots of problems.

I had one audiobook that was just plain bad CDs, Thr3e by Ted Dekker would not even play the last two tracks correctly in a normal CD player or mini-stereo. I ended up getting Thr3e from Audible.com. The book was quite good, IMO.

Sorry that I can't suggest an easy solution.

Enjoy life,
Steven
