How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows

To take existing DVDs that you have around the house and put them onto iPod:

You'll need two programs, DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter.

Now, use this step by step tutorial for converting DVDs with DVD Decrypter. Note: Once you reach the part about PSP Video 9, stop watching and use the 'One Click Transcode' option in Videora to select and convert the VOB file that DVD Decrypter produces.

Once you have a converted file, add it to iTunes in the same way as music (drag it into the iTunes library) and it will automatically copy across to your iPod.

Windows XP on a PC, decrypted a movie using "DVD Decrypter" with no problem. I took that file (VOB) and converted it to mpeg4 using "Videora Ipod Converter" and after that I transfered it to iTunes without any problem and then transferred to my ipod (no problem). I played it but I can't hear anything. I see the movie fine but there is no audio.
Searched this forum and find that this appears to be a common problem but, as yet, no sign of an answer in any of the posts, anyone have any idea?

Sorted. In DVD Decryptor, under Stream Processing, I had checked the video file but forgot to check the audio file as well! Doh! All works well and movie playing well on the ipod. Thanks everyone for their posts.

Hi I was wondering if someone could please help me! I tried the DVD decoder but it was only at 3% after a half hour and it was using up all of my computer's virtual memory. What should I do? Is there any other way to get DVD movies onto my iPod? I have a Gateway laptop w/ windows xp.

The same thing is happening to me, it is going on about a half hour now, and Videora is still going, and going, and going, even though it is 100%! When will it end?

i have videora the only thing is, when i tried to convert a video, it worked fine a couple of times, but keeps cutting my movies, so i start off with a whole one and end up with only two minutes of it... how do i fix it!?!

I've been away for about a month so I haven't been looking at the forums. As i'm not totally sure what questions have been answered or not, please post them in reply to this and I'll get to work on them.

Note to newer users: DVD Decrypter is no longer available at the link above. Macrovision, the company behind the DVD copy protection, has sent out its lawyers to eradicate DVD Decrypter by means of C&D letters... so far, it's working. I will maintain a copy of DVD Decrypter on my webspace as long as I can, and I am happy to email copies of the software out to people. You can get DVD Decrypter here:

I have copied movies onto my ipod using Vidora and they played once but now they won't play again. The screen turns black and the play icon shows but they don't play and then it returns to the video menu. What can I do?

I have used the new decrypter software on the link you gave and now i am attemtpting to convert the VOB file into mpeg4, but it's been saying "starting job...please wait" for about an hour now. What am i doing wrong??

mine started downloading automatically when i put in the dvd, does that mean that i dont have to read and follow the step by step thing u wrote down, or do i do that after?

So, that may be my problem, that is, even though Videora produces an MP4, if you are decoding as those 264 files, you can't use them, right?

Okay... I converted the file using videora. But when i go to import it into itunes the file does not show up! I know its there because I can see it when i open it up in any other window. I try the add file to folder option and when i try to add it it just doesnt do anything. Am I doing something wrong? Help please....

i am also having problems decrypting dvds. about 45% through, it tells me that there is a read error. i've hit the retry button and ignore button, but the process never completes....help!!!
