Cannot download or update to iPod Touch 2.1

Everytime I try to update to the new iPod Touch software 2.1 it says,

"A new iPod software version (2.1) is available, but requires iTunes 8.0. Would you like to download iTunes 8.0 now?"

I'm already running iTunes 8.0.0.35 right now (I downloaded and installed it from the Apple website yesterday when the download was first available). I'm running iPod Touch software 2.0.2

I keep seeing that many people have been able to update 2.1, but even when I say "yes-download iTunes 8" again--there's simply nothing happening.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Has anyone else been able to successfully update to 2.1 using similar computer--Vista computer running iTunes 8, updating from 2.0.2?

Any ideas?

I'm using a Windows machine and have the exact same problem. Once I figure it out, I'll post here. That is if it's localized and not an iTunes problem.

I am having this same exact problem. I am using Vista as well and it's getting irritating that I can't even update my iPod Touch. Hopefully Apple can help out or someone here can as well.

Considering how buggy 2.1 is you might want SKIP upgrading to 2.1.

Wait a while for 2.2 or whatever the next revision is.

I give. The download flashes briefly then disappears when using "The page". I even removed iTunes and reinstalled with no luck. It looks like I'll wait this one out for now.

Good to know some have got it to work.

I saw that too. It seems that this might be a problem when using vista. The people who got it to work use mac or xp.

Im having the same prop, I talked with apple and the guy i talked to couldnt figure it out, his manager is supposed to call. What I am finding out is that its not the computer or itunes itself (well it could be itunes), its actually something with the itunes account is what i am geussing

This is definitely not just a Vista issue, as I'm experiencing the same issue on my Mac.

Heck, even though I already purchased 2.0 for my iPod Touch, I still got charged for the 2.1 download...and that's not really downloading. Like others have said, I notice a 0.4KB download occur and then...nothing.

I too, am in the iPhone Developer program, and while I don't have anything non-standard installed (I never tried the 2.1 beta) I'm wondering if being in the dev program is causing this issue.
