Above info lists the Macbook Pro for which I'm trying to do a memory upgrade. It currently has a 1GB chip in each of the two slots. I want to remove one of the chips and replace it with a 2GB chip, to total 3GB of RAM. I've shopped around and compared the specs on several different makers.

I've found a 2GB DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMM (not the kit, but the 2GB chip) from 4 All Memory.

What I'm wondering is if a PC2-5400 would work in my computer. Anyone know?

I'm not even sure what "unspecified chips" are.... I've looked online in the Apple store. They don't seem to offer a 2gb chip that will work in my computer. So I'm looking at 4 all memory's site. They have a computer model selector that takes you to what they say is the exact memory for the machine. They have the 2gb ddr2-667 (PC2-5300) SO-DIM; not the PC2-5400. And Apple has the 1gb ddr2-667 (PC2-5400); not the 5300. Apple doesn't seem to offer one 2gb chip, just the "kit" that makes 2gb - which isn't what and need.

I'm trying to max-out the RAM space, and if I understand correctly, my machine will only get to 3gb.

Hi SCShisler,

The difference between PC5300 and PC5400 is primarily on the marketing side. Both examples will run at 667MHz in your MBP. I am running OCZ PC5400 in my "Early 2008" MacBook Pro, and it is detected at 667MHz. Theoretically, PC5400 RAM is running at 337 MHz, as opposed to the "standard" 333 MHz. Good luck!
