After enabling Genius, I gave it a go, over & over - every time the message was that it was unavailable for the tune I had selected ... not what I expected !!

I have had the same problem, so at least you aren't alone. I assume it's just teething problems, but I hope the Apple folks know the problem exists and are working on it.

Ya, I am having the same problem. Some of my songs work fine for Genius, but a lot of them do not, it returns the Error message that you described, all that I can guess is that they have a server overload like they did when the released Mobile Me.
"When creating a new Genius playlist on iPod or iPhone you may see one of the following messages:
"This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist"
"Genius is unavailable for the selected song"
In both cases, the song you've selected may not have been included in the Genius database if the song wasn't recognized or there aren't enough songs on your iPod or iPhone that would make a great playlist with the selected song. In some cases updating Genius from the Store menu in iTunes and syncing additional songs to your device may allow Genius to create a playlist in this case."
Not impressed with Genius here. Apparently it will only work with artists & songs that are available on the iTunes store? Is this the way it's supposed to work?
If I select a Beatles song, of which I have hundreds, it gives me the "This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist". Same thing with AC/DC. I thought it was supposed to be based on your own personal library of music, that's why it took forever analyzing it or whatever that was when I first started Genius.
However when I selected a song from another one hit wonder group that is available on the iTunes, it finds all kinds of comparable songs even though I have only that single song by the band in my library to analyze.
Also I'm less than impressed with it's ability to select comparable musical genres, styles, etc. I picked a Kiss song & among the songs the "Genius" assembled in its playlist were songs by such world renowned hard rockers as Barry Manilow, Carol King & Dan Fogelberg. What a joke!
all our stuff has been downloaded from the iTunes store ... approaching one hundred tracks, so far, in four albums (two German Nena, one Ibiza DJ mixes, and one Hollywood film soundtrack) ... still no go !
Every single song out of the 500 or so I have in iTunes I got from the iTunes store at some point over time. I recently re installed Leopard on my computer so I had to copy the files over, but they all still work fine. Genius seems to have issues working with a lot of the songs that are new to the store, like Swaaga like us. It also seems to have issues with songs in general. Some songs from one artist work, then some songs from the same artist and album do not.
The funny thing is that the genius feature works well on my Ipod touch (which is all syncronised with my Itunes of course). But if I use the same song which produced a perfectly good genius playlist on my Ipod, on my computer Itunes software it produces the message "Genius is unavailable for the song ...." message.
