FCE Express 4 won't start up

Hello, I've installed the 4.0 update on my system but now FCE won't start. I see the start-up screen (with my name and the correct serial number) where it loads audio and video effects etc. Then it reaches channel mixer and the '...quit unexpectedly'-pop-up appears. Have tried to reinstall from my 3.5 version, but again nothing. Also did the 4.0.1 upgrade. Has anybody seen this? Help would be much appreciated!

First try trashing the preferences exactly like this:-

Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Express back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Express user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences
Note: The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Express User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.

If that doesn't work you must reinstall BUT IT IS VITAL YOU COMPLETELY UNINSTALL FIRST like this:-

Thanks Ian! I did a complete uninstall as mentioned in your post. I must say that quite a few folders and files I was supposed to delete were not in existence on my imac. To be sure I also used a program called FCS remover. After that I reinstalled FCE HD which worked perfectly (which is an improvement. That one didn't work before either). However, the upgrade to 4.0 did not. Again, the same issue as described above.

Sorry to hear that it is still not cured.

There are others on this forum who know more about such problems so hopefully they will add their suggestions.

It sounds as though there may be something in your computer that is causing the conflict.

Sometimes a new OS update or QuickTime can cause trouble.

Certain versions of QT have been known to affect the working of FCE but I can't remember which - maybe someone else can.
