Belkin USB Hub

I am undoubtedly the only technaif in existence who didn't know this; however, on the off chance that there might be another:

I had a great deal of trouble getting my G4 to see my new Nano and perused all of the troubleshooting and discussion forums I could find. I finally found the answer on the Belkin web site. I use a four port Belkin USB hub and the G4 would see the Nano if I unplugged the hub and plugged the Nano directly into the USB port on the G4 but not through the hub.

There was a FAQ on the Belkin site that asked what the switch was for on the side of the hub. I didn't know there was a switch there. It has two positions, "bus" and "self". It only provides enough power for the Nano in the "self" position. Works now.

This makes sense, the Nano probably requires all 500mA from the USB port, so when running the hub in bus mode - it means the hub gets its power from the USB main port bus. So 20-50mA will be lost through running the hub - not enough for the Nano to work. When running it self mode, the hub will get its power probably from an external powersupply - the bus mode is probably for use with laptops on the move, and lower power devices, (keyboard, mice, etc) so users don't need to take another power adaptor with them.
