problems with pop mail fetching and application update after 2.1 firmware

Just curious if anyone is still having problems with pop mail fetching after the 2.1 update. I still have long stretches of time where no e-mail is received, and then when I manually fetch mail, I get the spinning wheel and connecting until I exit mail. Sometimes I can get mail after just closing mail, and other times, I have to do a soft reset.

Also, my application update still is not working. I had to remove the application from the iPhone before it would install, and then that was only after a sync with my macbook pro, and wouldn't do it directly on iPhone.

Thanks in advance for any potential solutions to these issues.

I'm having issues with fetching gmail imap since 2.1. iphone will not fetch at any interval except if i manually open the email app. I've tried various settings and performed a restore and erased content and settings with no luck. i also tried creating a new gmail account, which didn't help.

I spoke with apple reps this afternoon who were not able to suggest a solution claiming that 2.1 was supposed to fix these types of issues.

so i'm as lost as you are regarding why 2.1 would somehow upset email fetching.

Have the same problem. Gmail IMAP was working just fine for me until I applied the 2.1 firmware.. Now I don't seem to be getting any notifications of new mail.. It seems only when I open up Mail do I get a notification. I had mail sitting in my box for over an hour, and it did not alert me.. I've got my fetch interval set to 15 min! I had NO problems prior to 2.1.. One of the reasons I got the iPhone was for mail.. I'm not very happy right now. Anyone else have any luck fixing? Thought 2.1 was supposed to "improve" mail stability.. It's done just the opposite for me!

Yup.. .exactly my issue. I've been on the phone with apple three times, they made me try various things, most of which haven't resolved the problem. I'm waiting to see the result of their latest suggestion, if it works, i'll let y'all know.

Interestingly, when i setup mobileme but disabled push, so that iphone would only fetch every 15 minutes, fetch appeared to work. As such, it is possible that gmail, yahoo and aol are somehow conflicting with 2.1??

I have been using IMAP to fetch mail off of a non-Gmail server since I got my 3G a few months ago. It has worked splendedly.

After the 2.1 update, I have noticed that it is NOT properly fetching any longer. This morning, I manually fetched by opening up the e-mail app at about 7:48am. I was doing a few things and didn't open e-mail again until about 11:00am. The "last updated" timestamp still read 7:48am. After it fetched by manually opening the app, I had two new e-mails, both time stamped in the 9:15-9:30am timeframe.

This is most definitely a new but in the 2.1 firmware. My suspicion is that a "battery saving" technique is causing it to actually stay asleep rather than fetching in the background. This needs to get fixed quickly.

I have had a standard POP3 fetch with Gmail every 15 minutes since getting my iPhone in July and it has worked flawlessly. Every since applying the 2.1 update the fetch is no longer working. If I actually open the mail application it will get mail but the background fetch every 15 minutes is definitely dead. I have tried resetting the fetch interval in Settings/Fetch New Data but it does not seem to have any effect.
