iTunes 8 wont detect iPhone after upgrading from 7.7

I just upgraded iTunes to version 8, after updating iTunes will not detect my iPhone. When I plug in the iPhone windows detects it as an iPhone and displays the prompt to open folder, no nothing, etc ... But iTunes does not see it.

I've tried:

1.) Stopping / starting the iTunes services
2.) Put the iPhone in recovery mode
3.) Put iPhone in DFU mode
4.) Plugged in the iPhone into different USB ports
5.) Uninstalled iTunes 8 & Apple mobile device support then reinstalled iTunes 7.7

... all this I tried and nothing works, iTunes just will not detect the iPhone.

Please let me know if anyone has run into this and if they have any advice.

Thanks

Windows Vista, Vista 32 bit, 4gb Ram, Intel Chipset

I have same problem after downloading itunes 8. Worked fine last time I connected. I have Office 2007 and use outlook and it seems that the computer doesn't recognize the driver. Was on phone 3 times with Apple and still had me uninstall and re-install told me I needed a product specialist?? So I am in same boat as you are at the moment.
I plan to see what happens when I connect without software in the AM, but doubt that will do anything without itunes.
Keep me posted

It's possible that installing iTunes 8 hosed a Vista driver, but I have no clue what it could be - I don't use Vista. It didn't create problems with an XP system I use (or OS X). Short of re-installing Vista, I don't have any specific advice. Maybe someone in the iTunes forum can help - or maybe the "product specialist".

I'm not clear what you mean by "connect without software", or the relationship of this iTunes issue with Office 2007 and Outlook you alluded to.

Hey Farice ... Let me know if you fix the issue, I'm still having the problem, and have tried everything short of formatting and reinstalling windows, I am -not- reinstalling windows, there has to be another way. I suppose I could revert back to an older restore point, don't know if that would work, but I'd rather find out what the problem is so I can avoid it in the future.

Any one else have any answers ... getting pretty desperate here.

Ok ... I found the solution. If you view the driver details for the iPhone when plugged in, you will see (at least in my case) that the iPhone is using Microsoft Drivers, not Apple ... this apparently was the issue.

To fix, I downloaded the latest iTunes, I then -extracted- (not installed) the file ... then within the extracted items, there were more .msi files, I extracted all these also.

After extracting, view your iPhone in device manager, click properties, then driver ... update the driver, when asked choose to Browse for folder. Choose the parent folder that you extracted all items to ... Windows should now discover the correct iPhone driver and install.

Don't know if that will work for everyone or not, but it seemed to do it for me.

Ok... I'm having the same problem that you're saying this should fix... I've been trying to find a solution for months now, so I'm really hoping this works for me.

I extracted all the files - then extracted all the .msi files... And went to update my driver - but it isn't finding any driver files in the parent folder. 😟

I'm getting really frustrated and I was super hopeful this fix would finally be the solution I need! Can anyone suggest anything else? What did I do wrong, why are there no driver files when I extract?
