Battery Life Significantly Reduced Since Installing iphone 2.1 software

Since downloading new software update on my iphone (I have the original, not the 3G), the battery life has reduced to a matter of 4 hours or so, even when I switch off WiFi and PUSH mode. Any idea why this might be?

Is it possible that a server could be somehow pushing more info (exchange?)

It was about 6 hours ago that I did the update and the usage/standby where identical, I ran out of things to try about 3 hours ago and just left it

The usage is now 30 mins lower than the Standby and the gap is slowly growing, I am confused why it would suddenly fix itself, Although I do remember Exchange doing this on the previous version and it just fixed itself

I am having exactly the same problem. Non-3G iPhone, I was getting 2-3 days of battery life (I have both an exchange acct. & a mobileMe acct. on "push" on this phone) and now, no matter what I do, the phone is running:

1) warm to the touch (CPU running maybe?)
2) 4-5 hours of battery life
3) slow, barely responsive UI

I had these issues originally when I bought the phone, but they went away. Now it was only happening once in a blue moon -- until this 2.1 update. Now my phone is absolutely awful and sounds like all the horror stories I've heard others have with the iPhone.

I've got exactly the same problem - battery life is now shockingly bad - goes from full charge to being totally drained within 12 hours. Its now made the iPhone useless to me as a phone, and I am going to try and get it swapped for a Sony Ericsson.

The other really frustrating thing about 2.1 is that it no longer tells you who has texted - just says 'New Text Message'.

I was having the same issue. After the 2.1 upgrade, for the first day or 2 my battery would be low after about 12 hours... and most of that was standby. Over the last day, I have seen much better performance. I let my battery drain completely to the point that I could not do anything but put it in the dock... and even then it would not sync for a while until it had some charge. For some reason this seems to have done the trick for me. The battery life does now appear to be better than 2.0.x. Maybe this is how the battery meter re-calibrates??

I have an original iPhone if that means anything. Hope it helps!
