Battery Life Significantly Reduced Since Installing iphone 2.1 software
Since downloading new software update on my iphone (I have the original, not the 3G), the battery life has reduced to a matter of 4 hours or so, even when I switch off WiFi and PUSH mode. Any idea why this might be?
Lets hope Steve and the rest at apple read these posts - since updating my 3G iphone to 2.1 I'm lucky if I get 24hrs out of a single battery charge, prior to updating I was getting just on 2 days of stand-by time between charges
MY original 8GB iPhone's battery life is way better with OS 2.1.
I just dropped to 33% charge after 36 hours without charging! I have 3 e-mail accounts turned on, and MobileMe push enabled. Before 2.1 I would have been dead at the 8 hour mark.
I suspect it's your phone's uniqueness, perhaps one of your settings, or an angry application.
Is it possible that a server could be somehow pushing more info (exchange?)
It was about 6 hours ago that I did the update and the usage/standby where identical, I ran out of things to try about 3 hours ago and just left it
The usage is now 30 mins lower than the Standby and the gap is slowly growing, I am confused why it would suddenly fix itself, Although I do remember Exchange doing this on the previous version and it just fixed itself
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have a 16GB white 3G, and my battery life has gone from a couple of days between charges down to less than a day--even with 3G turned off.
I should have read this before I updated the software. Battery life significantly reduced and dropped call has increased. Never had dropped calls until now.
I am having exactly the same problem. Non-3G iPhone, I was getting 2-3 days of battery life (I have both an exchange acct. & a mobileMe acct. on "push" on this phone) and now, no matter what I do, the phone is running:
1) warm to the touch (CPU running maybe?)
2) 4-5 hours of battery life
3) slow, barely responsive UI
I had these issues originally when I bought the phone, but they went away. Now it was only happening once in a blue moon -- until this 2.1 update. Now my phone is absolutely awful and sounds like all the horror stories I've heard others have with the iPhone.
I've got exactly the same problem - battery life is now shockingly bad - goes from full charge to being totally drained within 12 hours. Its now made the iPhone useless to me as a phone, and I am going to try and get it swapped for a Sony Ericsson.
The other really frustrating thing about 2.1 is that it no longer tells you who has texted - just says 'New Text Message'.
I was having the same issue. After the 2.1 upgrade, for the first day or 2 my battery would be low after about 12 hours... and most of that was standby. Over the last day, I have seen much better performance. I let my battery drain completely to the point that I could not do anything but put it in the dock... and even then it would not sync for a while until it had some charge. For some reason this seems to have done the trick for me. The battery life does now appear to be better than 2.0.x. Maybe this is how the battery meter re-calibrates??
I have an original iPhone if that means anything. Hope it helps!
Additionally, I tend to plug the phone into my computer or a power outlet while I listen to music, and up until the update to 2.1, the battery would charge or just not deplete. However, Since the update, it definitely isn't charging, and I suspect it may be depleting as well.
