So I downloaded iTunes 8 to get Genius because I think it looks really cool. However, every time I choose a song to put in to a Genius playlist, I get an error message saying iTunes cannot find the song or similar songs. Now all songs are in my library and they're songs like Rihanna and OneRepublic...and all of them were originally downloaded from the iTunes Store. So I'm just wondering why I can't create a Genius Playlist? Anybody have any answers and can help me out on using Genius? I don't know if this matters but I'm Canadian. Did Apple not extend Genius to its Canadian customers?
Genius will work with some songs and not others. Once a week, your computer will send stats about your music to iTunes to help make Genius smarter and help it recognize more songs. You can shortcut this by choosing "Update Genius" from the Store menu in iTunes. It won't work every time, but sometimes, it will begin to recognize more songs. Give it time.
It just seems a little pointless for Apple to have developed a technology that doesn't recognize songs from artists like Rihanna. I get that the technology is new but when it can't find similar pop culture music that almost everyone downloads and allow me to make their so-called Genius playlist..then I just ask, why bother with the Genius system at all? I have reasonably popular songs in my library, grant it there are a few indies but mostly all popular music. I just find it annoying. The only good thing I've received from iTunes 8 was the ability to download iPhone 2.1.
I had this issue initially when I added a whole lot of my mp3s to itunes, where genius wouldn't use any of the new songs in a genius playlist - but sure enough after a few days genius magically started using my new songs in playlists.

Umm... actually I think it would be best all round if NO technology ever recognized songs from 'artists' like Rihanna! lol
