How to SYNC Google Calendar & contacts on the go - And it WORKS
I have had a new 2nd gen (iPhone 3G) for about a month and have had a lot of trouble syncing my iPhone with Google. I have tried all sorts of things including mobile-me nothing seems to work properly but......
I have found one way that works, its simple, free and effective. Before I let the cat out of the bag I need to tell you a few things. This solution is not the be-all and end-all but it is close.
1. This does not sync with your PC/Mac - but why would you need it to. I dont have calendar info on my PC as its always connected to the net and when its not I have my iPhone! I back my contact up from google to CSV on my PC once a week (automate task).
2. This solution uses Exchange as the client - iPhone only supports 1 exchange server on the phone so if you use MS Lookout (oops) Outlook then you will need to sync this with Google calendar with google's new outlook client (get it from Google)
3. It is not a PUSH solution but timed fetch or manual (so what, cant be more than 15min to sync, big deal, i'm sure you can wait)
4. WILL delete all your contact from the phone when it is turned on for the first time (not the products fault but Apples, they trash all contact every time you change the sync settings. The same thing will happen if you dump mobile-me. So if you are going to change make sure google has all your contacts BEFORE you apply the new settings. Google will import CSV and vCards (Shame apple's flag ship the iPhone 3G doesn't))
OK Now for the solution............... http://www.nuevasync.com/
IT WORKS GREAT.
+At least until apple stops forcing XP/Vista users from having to install the compertions piece of sh.t Outlook. Why on earth they support this and not google is beyond me but maybe its coming. hint hint.+
