So I upgraded to the iphone 3G after loving my iphone 1.0 for a year now and hearing all the good stuff about the 3G being so fast. Problem is! I see 3G with 4 bars and when I start using it, it switches over to Edge! Why? I think the update as many people say is falsely represented. Another example, I lay on my bed and browse the web using 3G, when I turn my body to the other side, it becomes Edge?! *** Apple! I'm paying 15 more per month and got a 16GB iphone, I really want to believe in the force, but this time around, looks like Apple is giving me a rotten apple...Either fix this sh*t or have a recall!

Mine didn't even come with a power adapter, AT&T rep said there was a recall, if Apple can't even make a working power adapter, should I really trust their 3G iPhone?

Hi

I'm based in London, O2 claim that I'm in a very strong 3G area (between 3 masts) after updating my phone to 2.1 I can state that I get the same signal strength with 3G OFF (around 3 bars) and with 3G ON I still get no service

If I tap the 03001#12345# to see my signal strength in numbers then I still get the same no's as pre 2.1 which is around -95 to -99

...another false dawn!

Varus, I may live in Portugal but I'm English, so I have no comprehension issues.

The phone would only need to be recalled if it had a serious hardware fault. There is absolutely no evidence at all of any hardware fault on the phone. I don't doubt that there are some people who are having problems with the phone but that doesn't warrant a recall.

Hi,

I'm getting a less reliable signal since the 2.1 update, similar to someone else who posted here it fluctuates between 3 and NO bars and I now loose service quite frequently! My wife has a N95 on the same O2 network and has no problems at all!

No matter how you call it there's still hundreds if not thousands of iPhone users AND in different countries AND on different networks, still having 3G problems. The iPhone STILL has problems !!!!!

looking at the bars means nothing regarding the reception...you have to be in "dBm mode" to see if you have stable 3g connection.

to have a good stable reception you need to bee in the interval of at least -85 to -90 dBm, steady..if your phone pops up over -100 dBm there is a big chance that you loose the 3g.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-50 to -88 is excellent to good signal strength, i.e. you shouldn't have any problem to make/receive calls.

-89 to -100 is poor signal, meaning that you may have bad voice quality, or sometimes dropped calls

o -101 and lower: it is likely that your calls will drop, or that your phone may lose 3g signal.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

instead of bars there could be 7 pink elephants dancing...but it does not matter i'm afraid

you can have good reception, but that is not equal to great speed !

have you checked any "check your speed page" ?

good reception is one thing and could only be measured in dBm , speed is something else..and a good average 3g speed is at least 800 kbits. but to get it you of course need to be in "highspeed 3g zone"

Count me in. I paid $300 plus tax plus an extra $10 a month for this thing over an original Iphone.

even with the 2.1 update 3g calling is useless. Yesterday I tried to make a call forgeting the phone was on 3g. result:

Call Failed.
Call Failed.
Call Failed.

Call connected but very crackly.

I keep mine set to edge it makes the phone usable as a phone but I'm paying extra to basically have a plastic Iphone 2g. While the rest of the features and speed beat the crap out of all the windows phones I have had the calling on the 3g is useless.

1st day on 2.1 made a 3g call. call went through. dropped at the 10 minute mark.
switched phone to edge. continued the call for 43 minutes until hang up.

ATT's other 3g phones do not experience this on ATTs network.

therefore its not ATTs network its the PHONE. in this case its the 3g chip.

Just because it works in Lisbon doesn't mean it works HERE.

I still like my phone and I love the roll over minutes I get with ATT but I'd like to actually be able to use all of my phones features.

2.1 3G reception increased from 1 to 5 bars anyone having problems still?
