MacBook / Mail / Hotmail??

Hi - I have a new Macbook. I have had a Hotmail account for ages and have been trying to set up the "Mail" option with the new Macbook - cannot get past the second page where it prompts you for incoming mail server, it says "POP server is not responding but will move on to the next page which prompts you for outgoing mail server... i cannot get beyond this.
Can someone please provide an idiot proof way for me to use my hotmail through the built in Mail app in the MacBook?
