iTunes Freezing after 10.5.5 update.

After running the OS X software update seeded today, iTunes is freezing whenever I am on the iTunes store. I cannot force quit and I also lose control of the mouse after a couple of minutes. I have to force a restart by holding the power button down for several seconds. It has happened 4 times and now I am afraid of going to the online store. Anyone experiencing this problem? I am using iTunes 8.0 BTW. This is the first time I have had to force restart my computer or had iTunes freeze on me.

How do I fix this?

Just curious if your iPods are connected when this happens? I shut down the Mac for several hours and then rebooted. Went on iTunes and started to surf all over the store to see if the problem occurs again. Didn't crash??? The only difference this time was that my iPod Touch was not connected.I also didn't have other apps running in the background. Really hope  fixes these stability issues with what is probably their most important software. I am so nervous on iTunes now as I can't imagine all those forced shut downs and restarts are good for my Mac.

I had a similar problem where my Intel iMac was freezing when I went to the main iTunes store page ad scrolled to the bottom. The fix was deleting the com.apple.itunes.plist file in the (user)/Library/Preferences folder, and letting it rebuild that file. Didn't hurt my iTunes library, although it did have to rebuild it. Back things up before deleting the plist file and you should be fine (although I take no responsibility if it hoses things).

I looked on an older discussion regarding this problem (10.53 and itunes 7.xx-8) see discusssion

go to System Preferences, Network, Advanced, Proxies. Then get rid of the PAC setting by setting to manual and leaving the fields blank.

This worked for me, though I previously have never had a problem in two years of owning this Mac.
Obviously this is a known bug which appears to have re-surfaced.
