How to send SMS from AIM?

Hello! I just got the iphone and installed AIM. I notice that when sending an IM it tells me to enter the screename or SMS. When I enter a phone number and try to send a message, I get an error saying the message was blocked. Does anyone know how I send an IM to a phone number? Thanks!

You can't send someone an IM to their phone (ie, a text message) from AIM. Besides, do you really think Apple/AT&T would let someone do that on the iPhone. They want you to use AT&T text messaging. Sorry, buddy.

Actually it does work. I solved my own problem. You just put the person on your ichat buddy list with the screename +1 followed directly with the area code and cell phone number you want to text. On your iphone, you load the AIM program and instant message that phone number. The receiver gets the instant message in their SMS as if it was a text message. Works great!
