Question

Error trying to Update iPhone, now I cannot use my iPhone!!!!!!!!

I plugged my iphone into my computer, clicked "Check for Updates" and it downloaded the software and installed it.. and then while it was "Verifying Software Update" it gets an error saying "The iphone "iPhone" could not be updated. An unknown error occured. (6)"

Then a picture of itunes and a usb cable shows up on my iphone screen.

So I unlug it and plug it back in, and itunes then says "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes."

So, I click OK and thn Restore. Then it says "Are you sure you want to restore your iphone "iphone" to it's factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased, and the newest version of the iphone software will be installed." So I click "Restore and Update" (because if I click cancel, I still can't do anything but click restore, and it gives the same message everytime.)

So, once I click Restore and Update, it then starts that process. Then I get another error in the middle of it "Verifying Software" saying "The iphone "iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured. (6)" I then click OK. Itunes again no longer finds my device and my iphone screen shows ituness and a usb cable.

NOW I CANNOT TURN MY IPHONE ON, BECAUSE WHEN I DO ALL I SEE IS THE ITUNES PICTURE AND A USB CABLE. UGHHH OMG, HELP/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic_ __/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images /migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not- avail.png

Also, under version, it now says my iphone is Up to Date with its software.

Also, everytime I connect the iphone to my computer, itunes says "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes."

So, I can't restore my phone... Hi, did you update your iTunes to the latest version? You may also want to try a different USB port, one that's directly connected to the computer.

I am using the latest version, 8.0.0.35

I am using a laptop, so my USB ports are directly connected to the computer. I have tried both ports, same problem.

try creating a new login acct on the laptop, load itunes on the new acct, and then try and restore it. I had a similiar situation, the only way i got my Touch to work was this way.

I am having the exact same problem with my iPhone. I have tried everything that apple support suggests when faced with this problem. I have tried the USB ports on the front and back of my computer, I have tried completely uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling it, and I have tried restoring it on another account. None of this has worked, and this is a problem a lot of people are experiencing. Apple: you better get on top of this fast you can't just leave all these people without a functioning phone.

12 hours later and my phone is doing the same thing!!! I cannot use the phone, it will not verifty software...I have right version of Itunes...I knew better than to let the phone technical guy hang up....anybody having any luck...I'm in dire straight as ALL my info is on the phone..pretty sad when I have a backup and can't get the blooming thing to restore so I can GET my backup...any help on how to finish 'verifying phone software' can get done???? thanks

hi
i had a similar problem
first be sure you connect iPhone trough the same USB port that you first connected it to.
try turning it off , than on again, and the same screen with itunes will appear, connect it to the PC and restore again

i had problems when updating to 2.0.2 and 2.1 software ... it given me error messages, but i just did what i told you before, and it worked

Exact same thing happened to me. always crashes or errors in the "verifying" stage.

Finally got my phone back to order. I restarted my computer and retried restoring it again and again until finally it took.

I am having this problem also, it happens everytime I try to update my phone. Last time I got it to start working again. I have been sitting here for 2 hours trying to get it to work again. I have tried everything. I had a blackberry pearl before I got the iphone, and I think it was a much better phone. I never had any problems with it. Now I have this piece of crap... If anybody figures it out please let me know

Same thing has just happened to me. So what is the solution. I have over 400 hundred contacts that I can not get back. My powerbook crashed so I moved all of my stuff to a tower G4. I can not get the itunes and USB logo off the thing. What do I do!!!!

I got my phone to start working, but now I have lost all contacts, and all other information I had stored on here. NOT GOOD!!!!! I think the iphone ***** and I am going to discourage anyone I know from buying one.

I am having a similar problem, and am just frustrated to no end.

Unfortunately, I had begun a iPhone sofrware upgrade before realizing that I had to have Itunes 8, and now all that shows on my phone is a picture telling me to connect to iTunes. It's not showing up in iTunes anymore.

I cannot even turn on my phone at all.

I cannot seem to install iTunes 8. It keeps saying "Service iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

Hi everybody, well update on my phone....IT CRASHED!!!! I happen to be a fortunate sole as my phone was ONLY 21 days old....I took it to nearest dealer after techs could not resolve the issue...it would not go past 'verifying phone software'....I was given a FULL refund, thank goodness....no more IPHONE for me...back to the ole faithful 'razor' phone..one thing a tech tried was other than the obvious, while plugging your cord into port HOLD down the HOME button at same time and it could FORCE the phone into recovery mode...didn't work for me but might for you guys....very pathetic...have an aunt in SLC, Utah...up for an upgrade in November and with this she's OPTED to maintain her current phone and contract with other carrier....I don't think this is very good for Apple or AT&T....for those of you lucky enough to still be up and running, the only thing I can say is make sure you have a backup OFTEN...FYI, my original contacts on my sim card that was transferred from my old phone were STILL THERE....good luck everybody, I'm out of here....
