Ive just bought this mac in germany, brand new but software was already installed so everything was in German, when i got back i configered the computer settings, region, time and date to all US which is the settings i want but still there are some German in it, mainly only when they ask for passwords or even when i log into the mac at the dashboard its all German. My ipod is US so i want to download all software and music, i want to get rib of everything European and just have US. Do i have to wipe the computer clean and reinstall mac software in US? how do i do that? can still do it with the software i have? or do i have to do some thing else?
Open the System Preferences and click on the International icon. Click on the Edit List button and remove the check marks on everything but English and U.S. English. Click OK. At the left arrange the now only two listed languages so English is first. Close the System Preferences. Log out and log back in, or restart in order for the changes to take effect.
Hi, thanks, but i did that yesterday and also just now and its still the same. Everything is still in English but seems just not all of the computer memory if that makes any sence. The web pages and all the names on the screen are English but just when i log in to the computer its in German and some of the words the pop up when the computer is asking you a question is in German and also when i log on to the Mac site that gets installed at first is in German??? sorry just knew at all this computer stuff, any help would be grateful, cheers
In that case, you'll probably have to do an Erase and Install from the disks the Mac came with so you can choose English during the setup. It will ask you what language you prefer. Put the DVD in the drive. A window will pop open where you can click on Install OS X. The computer will restart and boot to the DVD. From there, just follow the instructions.
Since it's brand new, I assume you don't have anything on it yet you need to back up first?
