Panasonic KX-p7105 printer won't work on new mac - has disk for Mac OS 9.2
I finally switched to a Mac and am so disappointed that my great laser printer won't work. It prints pages of gibberish. My driver disk is for an older version of mac and won't open. I get a message saying "You can't open the network setup tool because the classic environment is no longer supported." I've since searched the net for drivers and can only find windows versions. Is this hopeless? Should I return my Mac (I'm still within the 14 days and don't want to buy another laser printer).
Any options?
I spoke with Panasonic and they basically said there is nothing to do. I need a postscript key and nothing exists for the KXP7105. It only exists for the 7110 model. They said it is an external key that needs to be added to the computer. SO I guess none of the solutions above will work? I tried downloading the printer for the HP model, with no luck.
If the printer shows up in your printer list, and it supports PCL6, open the print queue. Click on the Info button, and then the Driver tab. Where the name of the driver is, choose Select a Driver to Use, and then choose the PCL6 - CUPS + Gutenprint driver. That should work.
What Bruce recommends should also work.
If you've installed (not just downloaded) the 3 parts of the hpijs driver set, then the HP 5100 driver will be found in the HP drivers group (in Print & Fax), named Laserjet 5100, foomatic/hpijs - or something like that.
The info the Panasonic "expert" gave you is what someone who doesn't know anything about Macs would say... It is wrong.
