Huawei E170 not working

Hi
I've just got a huawei e170 usb stick for internet on the go and can't get it to work. I had a E270 before and that worked fine. The stick works fine on my other laptop running Windows XP. I've tried everything that I've read on the internet and nothing works. Please help

Hi and Welcome...

Open > System Preferences > Network and see if the device comes up... usually the first time you plug in a network device it needs to be recognized and configured here... : )

Hi
It's all recognised and goes through the dialling process. Then disconnects and comes up with "Could not negotiate a connection with the remote PPP server. Please verify your settings and try again". I have the telephone number in there *99# so I'm stuck now.

i've found the modem script for the huawei and all the information seems to be there. don't understand why it's such a problem when i had no problems with the E270

nope. still doing the same. connecting, authenticating user, then disconnecting, and coming up with same thing about the PPP server. read somewhere else that there's not enough power in the USB ports?

Hi, don't quite know what I done right done today, but got it working. Completely uninstalled Huawei and then reinstalled. Worked straight away.
