wet power adapter

I feel stupid, but I dropped my power adapter in the kitchen sink (full of dishwater) this morning. I immediately pulled it out, pulled apart the two pieces, and dried it off. I have left it alone all day, and am not sure what to do next. I have been reading "remedies" involving everything from flushing it with distilled water and drying it out to sticking it in the freezer or a box of rice. I don't want to use a bad home remedy and make a repairable situation hopeless. Can someone help?

As a general rule... when it comes to power adapters, it's best to just get a new one. Anytime you're working with something where you're input is live current from the wall, you really shouldn't take a chance. While the internal circuitry should prevent any damage to your MacBook... it is always difficult to determine what damage may have been caused to individual components. If something was damaged by the water it can cause it to simply not work at all... or some of the internal safety components could have been damaged which can cause anything from poor voltage regulation, to overheating, to possibly shock to you or your MacBook. While adapters are usually pretty rugged, it's generally better not to take the chance.

Put your Power Adapter in a Zip-Lock bag with Silica Gel Packets. Let it sit overnight and the Silica Gel will pull the moisture from it's internal parts and dry it out. Simply air drying or using Rice does not remove all the moisture from the intermal components. You will find Silica Gel in with all new electronics, Tvs, Phones, etc. for a reason.

Just Google "Silica Gel Packets" and you will find a number of vendors selling!
