itunes 8 choppy video playback

I run a Lenovo T61p notebook - 2.5 Ghz processor, 4 gigs of ram, 64 bit operating system and a nvidia quadro graphics card.

I never had problem playing back videos with a previous version of itunes, but once i installed 8 the video playback became slow and choppy. Almost certain that it is not a hardware issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ditto. My wife's computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501. The videos she has downloaded played well in iTunes 7. Once she was forced to upgrade to 8 to purchase videos, the playback is extremely choppy. I've tried uninstalling all apple software and re-installed per itunes support, but this hasn't resolved the issue. It's not an issue with the media, if I transfer it to my Macbook Pro, the playback is very smooth.

I also began having 1-2 second pauses in audio playback every 30 - 45 seconds once I upgraded to 8. Still happens with today's 8.0.1.1 update. I'd appreciate any help that anyone could offer, as apple support on the phone told me they'd never heard of this and that my computer "must be too old." (1 year old HP 2.4GHz quad core with 3G of ram running Vista.) I'm going to try rolling back to 7 and I'll let you know if that returns smooth playback. Thanks!

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and have the same problems... iTunes 8 with new update and a lot of choppy playback... sometimes the it gets so bad that the image freezes, the audio goes on and then it just jumps like 3 or 4 seconds into the current frame missing some content. No problem with audio though.

Does anybody have the same problem.. is this a hardware issue??

I'm relieved that people with newer computers are having similar issues (choppy/freezing video track on itunes while audio is ok), but dismayed that the problem has been going on for 3 months and apple hasn't fixed it! Can anybody tell me how to roll back to itunes 7? (My issues appear with SD; my computer is too old to get decent playback on HD anyway, and they persist when I try playing using quicktime instead of itunes.)

I have the same problem here. Some research on older topics gave me this discussion:

It seems it was a know problem in previous ITunes versions. I have 3 PCS in my house, one with Vista and two with XP installed. In all of them video playback stops by 10 seconds of plaback, keeps freezed by 2 or 3 seconds, and then return. If we play video files in other softwares, like QuickTime, everything works fine. Any solutions?

Thank you.
