Mac Alternative to Photofiltre?

I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with the Windows program Photofiltre but it is a French photo editing program that is downloadable for free off the internet. I used to have a PC and I used Photofiltre all the time and was extremely pleased with the results. However, I have recently gotten a Macbook for college and Photofiltre obviously does not work on Mac because it was made for PC and they do not make a Mac compatible version. Does anyone know a photo editing program that is easy and simple to use like Photofiltre but that is compatible with a Mac? I know there is Photoshop but that is extremely expensive and extremely confusing. Or does anyone know a program that allows Windows programs to run on Macs that is relatively inexpensive?
