4th Gen Nano not charging with speakers or FM transmitter

I just received my 4th gen iPod Nano, and I have discovered that it does not charge off of the FM transmitters I have in each of my two vehicles (2 different brands). It also does not charge in my JBL On Stage Micro speakers.

This is an incredible inconvenience! I have been looking into ways to get a direct dock connection into my vehicles since the FM transmitters aren't very clear, but if it won't charge the 4th gen iPod, than what is the point?! I know folks that have purchased vehicles with a factory installed iPod dock connector option at a cost of $300+! Do they now have to wait for their auto manufacturers to come out with a replacement option for another $300+? Seriously, this is absolutely absurd User uploaded file

Firewire-compatible iPods accept charge on a 5V connection (used by USB) and a 12V connection (used by Firewire). While Apple has supposedly been warning accessory manufacturers for some time not to rely solely upon the 12V connections, this advice has not been heeded universally. As a result, as Firewire gets phased out of the iPod line, those accessories which deliver a charge only on the 12V connectors cease to provide power. This has been a complaint with 3G iPhone users as well, as the 3G iPhone also no longer supports Firewire.

From what I can tell, this sounds more like short sightedness on the part of the accessory manufacturers more than anything else. Granted, as car electrical systems run on 12 volts, it's logical/easier to just use that without having to do the conversion down to 5V power. Long story made short, it's an awkward place to be in as a consumer, as seems to be the norm when it comes to power and power adapters.
