How to compress video in iPhoto Library

I have a number of videos taken with my camera in my iPhoto library. It seems they are not compressed (for example: 30 second video takes 55 MB of space), so they take lot of disk space. Is it possible to compress them?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

Yes they are compressed, and quite compressed too. At approx 100 MB for a minute that would equate to 6 GB for an hour, which is less than half the size of DV - itself a compressed format. It's just that video files are Big.

And no, there's no way to compress them in iPhoto.

You could export them (File -> Export, be sure to set it to Kind: Original) and then use QuickTime Pro or an app like VisualHub to compress them further. Then re-import them to iPhoto.
