Mail won't retrieve but the iphone synched with it will; with same details

I'm running Mail 2.1.3 and have the following issue...

Whenever Mail checks for new messages from 2 work addresses (pop3) it gives me the following error:
"The POP server “xxxxxxxxxxxx.com” rejected the password for user “xxxxxxxxxxxx.com”"

I know I have the correct settings because my iPhone is synched with this and other accounts on my MBP and the iphone connects to the account with no hassle?

I'm stumped.
Any help gratefully recieved.
Ben.

I, too,am having similar problems. Part of them were solved by setting the correct port for outgoing mail. Comcast uses port 110, which may be a standard for all I know. I can now send, but Mail can't/won't download mail from Comcast. All my settings have been verified as correct by Comcast. Try Port 110 and see what happens.

(In spite of info below, my problem is on my iBook running Tiger running Mail 2.1.3, 753.1)

I can send from the specific account on my mac, in fact all of the accounts on my mac, the ones that can receive use port 110 (outgoing) already and the problem account is set to use that too. I tried changing it to port 995 but the error message said I was refused access to the email server.

Sometimes when I try to get new mail I DON'T get the error message about the incorrect login and the twirly circle thing spins and I get the 'no new mail' ping! sound... when I know there there are messages that the iPhone has downloaded.

Curiouser and Curiouser.
Ben.
