oooh! Why can you not understand that iTunes doesn't delete music willy-nilly!
If the music files THEMSELVES are missing, then a person or malware made them gone!iMac 10.5 or WinXP SP3, Other OS, external hard drive, B-W U2 iPod, 1G shuffle, 2nd gen Nano
Currently Being ModeratedSep 18, 2008 1:51 PM (in response to Katrina S.)I do not know how the music files have disappeared. There is a file with the name in the library but it is only a small file. I had more than one Gigabite of music. Why would any body want to delete those files? And why shoud this appear after an upgrade of teh ITunes?
I still have the library on my iPod and also on my iPhone. I wonder if there is some way to transfer those back to iTunes.
This has been a totally unexpected experience with Apple, which seldom caused me problems so far.

Currently Being ModeratedSep 18, 2008 2:56 PM (in response to Rajkumar Warrier)Karina - I'm a koolaid drinking Mac fan stuck with a PC and I've had the exact same thing happen to me. I ran the iTunes 8 upgrade and POOF 100+ songs are missing from my library and are nowhere to be found on my hard drive (there is only one) but the music still plays fine on my iPod even after syncing w/ PC (although songs still missing).
I have a top rated anti-virus/malware program running on my PC and no malicious bots/programs/files were found. The music files are just gone!
Anybody who works for Apple in iTunes wanna weigh in here?! I love Mac/iPod, but get my music back please!!HP Pavilion, Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedSep 18, 2008 4:04 PM (in response to Rajkumar Warrier)I'm having the same problem trying to find my music after downloading iTunes 8. I haven't moved the music. I haven't allowed anyone else to use my computer. The music was in the files before I downloaded iTunes 8. What do I do???Dell Latititude, Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedSep 18, 2008 5:15 PM (in response to mtshasta77)I hope some one at Apple is reading some of these posts and I hope they will straighten things out.
I do not believe the files disappeared becacuse of a virus. It simply does not show up on iTunes. ay be the path is wrong or something.
The measures suggested on the website, namely "dragging the file My Documents\My Music\iTunes etc etc to the desktop .." has not been very clear and it did not work for me. I even had an old Time Time machine backup, on an external drive etc has not yet helped me find the files.
I hope some one will tell me how to solve this or how to repopulate my iTunes with the music from my iPod or iPhone. Perhaps Apple will have an upgrade to their software to fix this mess.
Currently Being ModeratedSep 18, 2008 10:09 PM (in response to kaikunane)You can get them back from your Ipod, at least.
So is there any rhyme or reason to the 100 songs that are gone?
Apple techs don't read these forums - use the feedback page and paste the URL to this discussion into it.

If it doesn't show up in iTunes but is still on your hard drive, you can drag it back into the itunes library list.iMac 10.5 or WinXP SP3, Other OS, external hard drive, B-W U2 iPod, 1G shuffle, 2nd gen Nano
Currently Being ModeratedSep 19, 2008 2:38 AM (in response to Katrina S.)I'm having a similar problem. I downloaded version 8 onto my Vista PC about one week ago and have been updating my library ever since. Then suddenly yesterday my PC crashed and when I rebooted iTunes had dumped all my info.
Luckily my iTunes folder was still there so I reimported everything and assumed all was back to normal.
Wrong. Now, everytime I close iTunes it dumps all my music, applications, ringtones, pictures, everything.....everytime.
Any ideas anyone???Dell PC, Windows Vista
Currently Being ModeratedSep 24, 2008 11:29 PM (in response to Rajkumar Warrier)OK, add me to the list of iTunes upgrade losers. I just finished importing about 30 cds, and - in the blink of an eye - everything vaished. Songs, files, playlists, preferences, everything. I have no idea what I did, so please don't ask. They just evaporated.G5, Mac OS X (10.5.2)
Currently Being ModeratedSep 25, 2008 6:45 PM (in response to OxfordJoan)I have not had any bad experience with apple products so far until the iTunes issue. Now I a having second thoughts. I have the songs in my iPod and I am exploring ways of getting it to iTunes since Apple does not offer an easy path for this.
I understand that there are products out there which can accomplish this. As mentioned before I hope some one at Apple is listening.

Currently Being ModeratedOct 19, 2008 2:27 AM (in response to Rajkumar Warrier)Keeping a CD Collection is a hobby for me, so naturally I still use Best Buy and Target to buy CD's (yes I like the album covers, etc).
1st I bought a Nano, then a classic 80 gig Ipod. Needless to say my love is music! Yesterday 10/18/2008, my Dad bought me some classic 70's music he and mom used to play so frequently while I was growing up (I'm and 80's kid). I imported about 8 CD's to add to my existing 2300 songs. When each CD was done importing, I checked to see that were in my library, and they were. I shut down my labtop to go out. I came back in and turned on my laptop to get ready for bed(I sleep with music playing), and my entire library had completely vanished! I've been up ever since reading tons of forums, trying different suggestions, and YES my songs and entire library is GONE!
Now I am not that savvy, but I did a system restore, and still NO LIBRARY! What the eff is going with Apple that they can't offer us a solution to retrieve our music! I am devasted! I know that sounds dramatic, but I absolutley live for my music! It is now 5:23 am, and my music has not been recovered, needles to say I cannot sleep!
I tried pluging my Ipod to see if my library would magically appear, NOTHING, instead it said that my Ipod was synced to another library, and if I synced to this (EMPTY) library I'd be **** outta luck with no mucis!
