iTunes freezes while iPod is syncing

Got some new podcasts, started to sync the ipod.

I guess in the middle of syncing iTunes froze or something with the iPod messed up. It won't disconnect, iTunes stopped working and I can't even manually eject the pod using "safely remove hardware"

I had to shut down my pc in order to unplug the pod. In the meantime, this freeze during the syncing causes and subsequent shut down causes the iPod to erase itself.

I restored the pod and tried again but the same thing happened. Frozen during the syncing

any ideas?

I have a similar problem. I subscribe to 27 (and counting)podacasts that I manually manage every day. If I try to auto sync my podcasts, iTunes freezes, hangs, or otherwise becomes impossible to use. Also, there are some podcasts that will NOT transfer from iTunes to my iPod. Here's the strange part. Take the podcast "The Real Deal" from CNET. I can transfer some of the episodes but not all of them. I re-downloaded the episodes so they should all be good versions of the show, and they will still not transfer from itunes to the ipod.

hey, i have iPod classic 80G and it currently won't let me put any songs on it. it froze during syncing and when it unfroze it came up with an error -50 message. this happened a couple more times when i tried to update, even after rebooting the computer and iPod, so i restored the iPod. but it still comes up with the message, and now i have no songs on my iPod. um, little help?

I'm curious to know what other people are running for hardware. Maybe we all have something in common (mobo, processor) that we can trace this issue back to. Also, I have an older PC and I'm wondering if iTunes just likes newer machines.

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard with an Athlon 64X2 4200. I'm running with 2GB of Corsair RAM. 2 Western Digital SATA HDD's. Processor & RAM are overclocked.

I'm running v8.0.0.35 now and it is working OK. I can manually sync all my podcasts to my iPod but if I try to auto sync I still get a BSOD.

My issue is similar. I have iPod Classic 80G on WinXP w/iTunes 8. I manually manage my podcasts and have it set to "snyc checked podcasts." When I add a new podcast subscription, I have to "check" the new progam and click "apply" to save the changes. That stopped working this week. My iPod syncs older programs fine. My iTunes freezes when I click "apply" and it will not sync the new program to my iPod.

On Sunday, I put some newly downloaded music on my ipod and ejected it. I look on my ipod a few minutes later and it says that it is full but shows no songs, no movies, no pictures.

I restore it. It starts to sync and then freezes and gives me the error. I restore again. Same thing. I put it into disk mode. Same thing. I uninstall/reinstall itunes and restart my computer. Same thing.

I took the ipod to the genius bar at my local Apple store and they did all these tests on it and said it was fine and that it is probably a problem with my computer. I REFORMATTED my hard drive at home (On my PC, originally running Windows XP SP2) and I reinstalled XP and got SP3. I reinstalled iTunes and loaded up my library, which was on a separate hard drive. It loads and I hook the ipod up to sync. It freezes after about 33gb had transferred. I finally get it ejected and there is no music on it.

So I transferred my music library to an external drive and I formatted the ipod with my iBook (running Leopard) and it synced with the library on my hard drive there, but as soon as I tried to add the music that I had backed up on my external, it froze.

I restored and tried again. Same thing. So I brought it to work with me this morning. I restored it here (work computer is Windows XP) and it synced up with the library on my work computer. Again, I tried to add the files from my external and it froze. Could this be an issue with my music library being corrupt or is it an issue with iTunes 8.x.x or is it a problem with my ipod? We all have very similar problems and we aren't getting any answers. I've tried the 5 R's so what else is there to do?

I am in the same boat too.
However the syncing process freezes when trying to transfer the TV shows and movies in the library. (i.e. larger files) Video is 3/4 of my itunes library and have never had this problem.
I recently reformatted my drive. XP SP3 is what i'm working with and an 80G iPod Classic. I installed the latest iTunes and rebuilt the library. Transferred purchased items from the iPod into the library without incident. Then tried to sync the iPod Classic and that is when the problems began after the iPod was erased.

I synched just my music and podcasts (which contain video files over 100MB) and things went fine. I then checked and synced and few music videos...again no prob. Next I tried to sync a selection of TV shows and that is where my problem happens. All the things that have been described in previous posts are happening. The forced shut downs and such.

Very frustrated and hope some brilliant person out there has a answer for us.

THANKS

I'm having the same problem. Two day's ago (after buying a bunch of music from christmas itunes gift cards:( ) I went to listen to my ipod after syncing it and there was no music present. I restarted everything with the same results, so I gave up and restored my ipod. Everything seemed to be working until the syncing became stuck on one song. This would go on forever, and if I tried to do something it gave me this error code: "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)"

Every time I restore the ipod it freezes at a different song for no apparent reason. After multiple restores, I have no been syncing and then unplugging the ipod when it freezes. I have now been able to get some music onto the ipod, the first six artists. Every time I disconnect the ipod restarts itself, and the itunes unfreezes.

This is very strange that so many people are having the same problem at the same time. It's been close to a year that I've had the ipod, so I guess the evil apple corporation thinks it's time for me to buy a new one. They must have found a new way to sabotage their product. :/
